Pod-Trak has completed an earthworks stabilisation project on behalf of Balfour Beatty plc at two cutting slips on the Great Western Main Line at Sonning Cutting near Reading.

At Sonning 2, works on the down main included the removal of slipped spoil from the area, cutting an access road into the slope to build the stepped formation and regrade of the entire slope with 6G and tie back into existing. Material had also to be cleared from the cess where slipped material had spilled over the cess wall. Over 260 loads of muck away and almost 4000t of stone laid.

At Sonning 3 on the up relief road, works included the removal of slipped materials removed from slope, sheet pile retention at the toe of the slope utilised to increase the slip circle of the embankment, cutting an access road into the slope to allow the stepped formation and regrade of the entire slope with 6G and tie into existing slope. 150 loads of muck away and 1800t of stone laid.

This was a great effort from all involved, particularly with the quick turnaround achieved for initial mobilisation.
